Fouquieria splendens
Ocotillo is a flowering shrub with whip-like long stems and is widespread throughout the desert Southwest. Dense spikes of red, tubular flowers appear in spring and visited by hummingbirds and bees. The branches or stems are buried in the ground to create a living fence.
